Monday Funday

Highlight of the day: Looking out at Puebla from a rooftop deck in the city and being able to see the city with the volcanoes in the distance was a memory I will never forget..

Today was a lot of fun! Savannah and I had a free afternoon, and we explored all around Puebla. Dra. Magda had her sons pick us up from the clinic, and they drove us around so we could see many of the different tourist sites. First we went to the Zócalo, the city center, to see different Catholic churches.

We spent a while walking around different streets in the downtown area. There was one street that was filled with candy stores. Savannah and I got a bag of mixed local sweets to try. I picked up a talavera style mug as well. Since it was such a nice day, we sat down for coffee on the roof of the Museo Amparo to take in the views of the city.

After walking around some more, we went to the Fuerte de Loreto y Guadalupe, the fort of Loreto and Guadalupe, in Puebla. This fort is where the historic battle took place on the 5th of May. Cinco de Mayo is not celebrated nearly as much here in Puebla as it is in the United States. The fort was closed to the public, so we could only walk around the grounds. The view from the fort was really breathtaking.

In the evening, the international office at UDLAP organized a trip to go see a wrestling match. I've never been to any sort of wrestling event before, and this was definitely an experience. The wrestlers were dressed in flamboyant costumes, and it was more like a performance than a fight. I don't know if I'll be attending any wrestling matches in the near future, but it was a great way to end a day filled with fun activities!
