If an Octopus was a Plant

Highlight of the day: Dr. Casas drove us around in circles in Puebla quizzing us about the street names and how to get to Clínica San Pedro, where we will visit tomorrow. He was extremely proud when we could accurately name a street and tell him where to go next.

Today started off with us getting our IDs (which I have already lost and found once), a tour of campus, and paying our tuition. The campus is a little bit confusing because the buildings are all very close to each other or connected. I got lost or disoriented a few times because I'm accustomed to the spacious campus at App State.

Savannah and I met with Dr. Casas in the late morning to talk about what we will be doing. This is our plan (as of now) for the next four weeks:
The "octopus" plant is really the plant
that is used to make tequila. I have
yet to learn the actual name for the plant.

  1. The first week we are spending at a family medicine clinic at Clínica San Pedro shadowing doctors and nurses.
  2. The second week we will be going to a children's hospital, where we will be able to see a lot of different cases.
  3. The third week we will be going to a more rural clinic, which will have entirely different types of cases and patients that do not have social security.
  4. The fourth week we are going to spend time at a trauma and orthopedics hospital, in labs on campus, and maybe even more. Dr. Casas told us a lot of things we'd be doing the last week, so hopefully we get to do a little bit of everything.
After our meeting with Dr. Casas, we went to the cafeteria to get a quick lunch before meeting up with him again to see when Clínica San Pedro was located. He told us to wait by his car in the parking lot because he needed a few minutes, but we were out there for a while. Savannah pointed out these large plants while we waited, and we tried to figure out what they were. I said that they reminded me of an octopus, if an octopus could become a plant.

Once Dr. Casas arrived, we were driven all around to learn the route to the clinic. He has a lot of energy and seemed to be really excited that we were there. He offered to take us to get hamburgers or tacos even though he knew we just ate lunch. Dr. Casas talked to us about plans to take us downtown and to visit churches later in the week. It'll be interesting to see what happens!
